Panasonic releases 3 new Micro Four Thirds lenses – 14mm, 100-300mm and 3D 12.5mm

September 23rd, 2010 No comments

Panasonic along with their newly announced GH2 Micro Four Thirds camera has also released a brand new 14mm f/2.5 wide angle prime lens, a 100-300mm f/4-5.6 Mega O.I.S. telephoto zoom and a very interesting 12.5mm 3D interchangeable lens for the Micro Four Thirds system.

Pansonic 12.5mm 3D Lens

The Panasonic 12.5mm 3D lens, demonstrated as a concept earlier this year features a fixed 12.5mm focal length and a fixed f/12 aperture. Two separate optical systems allow for the capture of left and right images simultaneously. Panasonic calls this an advantage over competing Sony and Fujifilm 3D methods, and that the Lumix 3D system can capture moving objects more easily. The new Panasonic GH2 is 3D-ready, and the Panasonic G2 will also be able to accept the 3D lens with an upcoming firmware update. The lens is listing for $249.95 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

Panasonic 14mm Lens

Also announced are the new Panasonic Lumix G 14mm f/2.5 ASPH lens and Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm f/4-5.6 Mega O.I.S. lens. They both feature seven-blade apertures and lightweight construction. The 14mm lens, equating to 28mm when coupled to a G series camera is comprised of six elements in five groups and measures 20.5mm in total. The 14mm lens is listed at $399.95 and is available now on Amazon.com for pre-order.

Panasonic 100-300mm Lens

The new telephoto zoom lens, Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm F4.0-5.6 MEGA O.I.S. reaches out to 300mm (35 mm camera equivalent: 600 mm) hand held ultra-telephoto zoom shots with astonishingly compact and light weight profile. Comprised of seven lenses arranged in five groups, the Lumix G 20mm lens actually uses two aspherical lenses to effectively minimize distortion and achieve super high resolution. September 2nd, 2010 No comments

The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 digital camera is stock and shipping from Amazon.com and is listed at $499.00. Click here to order the Panasonic LX5.

The Panasonic Lumix LX5 is a unique compact digital camera offering photo enthusiasts the ideal way for capturing professional-quality photos and High Definition (HD) video. With an ultra-bright F2.0 ultra-wide-angle 24mm Leica DC Vario-Summicron lens, the Lumix LX5 minimizes image distortion, resulting in stunning, true-to-life images with outstanding resolution and detail. The 24mm wide angle lens offers extraordinarily large viewing space and now the optical zoom is extended to 3.8x (90mm) making the LX5 even more versatile.

The F2.0 lens is twice as bright as a F2.8 lens, making it easy to produce beautiful photos with a soft-focused background thanks to the shallow depth of field provided by the extra light. In addition to the newly-designed lens, the Lumix LX5 features an image processing engine that combines technologies resulting in professional-quality photos, especially in low-light situations. Like its predecessor, the Lumix LX5 features the highly-acclaimed 10.1-megapixel CCD, but it has an expanded dynamic range by increasing the sensitivity and the saturation.

Cosina joins the micro four thirds system with new 25mm f0.95 prime lens

August 29th, 2010 No comments

The Cosina brand may not be known to average/casual photographers but Cosina is a juggernaut in the camera industry, responsible for rebranded versions of numerous cameras and lenses in addition to their excellent Voigtländer brand. Normally they just focus on regular SLRs, but now Cosina’s entering a new market: the realm of Micro Four Thirds lenses for mirrorless cameras by the likes of Olympus and Panasonic.

For the micro four-thirds system and its owners this is excellent news, who have found the growth of their lens collection limited by lack of available options. Cosina’s entry into the market not only means they’ll have more options to choose from but they won’t have to wrestle with SLR lens adapters as often.

Cosina’s first Micro Four Thirds lens is an amazing Nokton 25mm with a super bright ƒ0.95 prime aperture. A prime lens that bright isn’t going to be cheap, when the Nokton ships in October, you can expect to pay up to $1,100 for it, but it’ll be worth it… pictures from your Lumix are about to get whole worlds better.

It’s also possible that we could see a Voigtländer camera-body in the near future, too. Given that Voigtländer is a name closely associated with rangefinder cameras, which are the spiritual ancestor of the Micro Four Thirds cameras, this is pretty exciting stuff.
